"THE FOLLOWING IS A TRANSCRIPTION OF A "GENEALOGY" TAKEN FROM A SUTTON FAMILY BIBLE ONCE OWNED BY MRS. LYDIA CURREN OF NORWALK. IT WAS LAST KNOWN TO BE IN THE POSSESSION OF HER NEPHEW, ROBERT MCCANDLESS [1967].
Moses Sutton, a soldier of the Revolutionary War, was born 1745 and died in Lyme Tp. Huron Co. Dec. 7, 1827. In 1769 he was married to Susana Cox. A native of New Jersey, He was temporarily in Va. and Penn. Moved to Ohio in 1811 and to Lyme Tp. in 1814. He did teaming for the U.S. army in the War of 1812. His children were: Philip [b.1770]; Isaac; Moses & Levi. Chil. of Philip - Susan [m Mizener; Hannah [md. John Davis of the Peninsula]; David; Moses; Isaac H. [married Sally Holliberger] and Nancy who md. Isaac W. Sutton.
Children of Isaac: Reuben, Levi R., Isaac W., Richard Reed, Pamela [md. Hosea Hunt] & Louisa [md Eph. Clemens].
Children of Moses: Baxter, Stansbury, Sanders and Susanna.
Children of Levi who was born Jul 25, 1789; was md. to Miss Katharine Crist, March 24, 1814. Katharine was b. March 9, 1795 [d. Aug. 22, 1874] as follows: Wm., b. Jan. 4, 1815; Daniel, Oct. 8, 1817; Elisha B., b. June 20, 1819 [d. Dec 27, 1879]; Philip, Oct 10, 1820; Alfred, b. Sept. 1, 1822; Clarissa b. Oct. 29, 1825; Sarah Ann, b. Feb. 18, 1827; Andrew Jackson, Jan. 6, 1829; Ira, b. Mar. 7, 1831; Levi, b. Marrch 9, 1833; Cynthia Ann, b. March 28, 1838.
WAR RECORD. Abraham Sutton [son of Alfred] served in Co. G. 72 Reg. O. V. I.; Reuben and John [sons of William Sutton] served in Co.___ 55th O.V.I. John was killed. Elisha joined a Mich. Reg., also his son Myron served in the Mich. cavalry.
Present residence of relatives in 1887 The children of Moses Sutton Jun. are now living in Putnam Co. O. William Sutton lives in Old Round Rock, Texas. His son Isaac is with him. Other sons live in Nebraska. Philip, brother of Alfred, lives in New Haven, O. Ira and family live in Erie Co. O. Levi, Jr, lives with his family in Bronson Tp. Huron Co. Sarah Ann, who married Thomas Clark, lives Groton, Erie Co. O. Myron, son of Elisha D. lives at Deshler, O. His two sisters Ella Pierce and Anna Shepherd, live in Toledo O.
The children of Pamelia Hunt are: Cyrus Hunt, Retreat, Wis; Amanda M. Chamberlain of Monroeville, O.; Helen Waymire, Garden Grove, Iowa; Francis M. Hunt, Reedtown, O; and Louisa Field, Graytown, O. Wintzel and family live in Lyme Tp. Sally DeYo, dau. of Levi R. Sutton lives in Fulton Co, O. near Lyons PO. Mrs Sally Sutton, wife of Alfred, was the daughter of John Clark, who was b. in Orange Co. N.Y. 1772; was a soldier in the War of 1812, and died in Lyme Tp. Huron Co. in 1875 age 103. He was the son of the severely wounded soldier of the Revy. War John Clark, who died in York State at the age of 106. He was born in Scotland and his wife was born in France.
NOTE; Bottom of page one; "Executed by ______Hunt Feb. 10, 1887. Levi R. Sutton, son of Isaac Sutton died at his residence in 1873 near Pontiac, Peru, Huron Co., O. He married Katharine Kyle in 1814. His children were: Mariah Gardner who residence was near her father; Jacob Sutton who became a druggist and _______ in Clyde, O.; Sally Deyo, who residence is near Lyons, Fulton Co., O.; Betsey Sutton who lives on the homestead; Adaline Harpster who moved to _____Ill.; Esther Davenport. Her residence is ___________. Miss Ruth Gardner, daughter of Mariah, lives in Monroeville with her father. Mrs . Emmins [?], daughter of Sally, with her husband lives with her mother on the Deyo homestead. Lexey [?] lives in Genoa, Ottawa Co. O.
Levi Sutton was elected Justice of the Peace in 1829 and held the office nine years. He, in parnership with Hiel Hunt, built a sawmill which was kept in operation from 1824 to 1861."
