1/28/2005 - John T Carter b. c1802 Ga m. Martha b. c1804 Ga named their son William Wooten Carter. We have no idea who John & Martha's parents were, nor her maiden name. It seems likely she was a Wooten, or they were otherwise related to Wootens. This couple were in Troup Co, GA c1827 then lived in Meriwether Co, GA until after the Civil War. I work in a FHC in FL. Someone came in looking for Wootens. Her people are ELIZABETH GILES WOOTEN 1730-1769 m. John Sefton. She lived in Londontown, Md. Looking for my g-grandfather ISRAEL WOOTAN & tracing to his probable ancestors in MS, where have found same name from
earlier generation, also with same presumed brother, FRANCIS MARION WOOTAN/WOOTEN.
I have an ISREAL [slight spelling variance] as early as 1804 in Lauderdale or Kemper Co, MS. but he was b. SC and "lived most of his life in Mississippi", according one GEDCOM, and died in MS 1849. Possible ancestor, father perhaps, but cannot presume, especially because whole WOOTAN/EN clan as far as I can see, has repeated these two names, ISRAEL and FRANCIS MARION across generations and lines.
My ISRAEL b. @1841 AL d. 1903 and presumed brother FRANCIS MARION lived in Robertson Co, TX in last 2 decades of 1800s.
There was an ISRAEL FRANCIS MARION b. 1832 in Monroe or
Montgomery Co, AL, d. 1863 Vicksburg in Civil War.

From "Abstracts of the Spartan" 12/8/1859 Mr Joseph H. Wooten of Spartenburg District to Miss E. C. Clockfelter of Greenville District. Joseph H. Wooten enlisted 2/17/1863 Co F, 1st (Charleston) Battalion, SC Infantry. According to voice memory records he was killed at the battle of Petersburg. Son, Peter Edmund Wooten b.1862, was raised by John and Sara Clockfelter Rome (assume a sister of E. Catherine Clockfelter Wooten) in the Rutherford and Cleveland Cty area NC. A Simon WOOTON/WOOLTON/WOOTTEN received a Bounty Land Warrant for service in the War of 1812; his widow, Mary W., received a pension (Bockstruck's Colonial VA Soldiers). Son: Joseph W, B. 11/9/1776 Buckingham Co, VA d. 7/20/1842 Mt Hermon KY; buried Wooten Family Cemetery w. of Barren Co home. "Gentleman farmer" and physician [WaRFA Quarterly Vol II, 2, June 1982]. "...born and reared in VA, he was bound to Mr. Bagbey (Bagby) who brought him to Barren Co., KY, about 1800. He became an extensive farmer and owned 3,000-4,000 acres of land, and a large slave holder. He was of German descent."

2/20/2005 - Searching for THOMAS WOOTEN b. 1859 OH m. 1881 Jackson Co, OH to Julia C Fields. They had 8 children; 2 must have been stillborn (no names); Cecil Thomas died as young child; Clarence, Ora Lester, Nancy Jane, Anne and Winifred Belle.
