Died in Duplin Co on the morning of Feb 27 at the residence of James Summerlin: Mrs. Lucretia Hardison, widow of James Hardison, a revolutionary war soldier, at the advanced age of 92 yrs, 1 mo and 10 days. She was a widow for 61 yrs, being left a widow with 4 small children to depend on her exertions alone for support. She leaves 2 children, 26 grandchildren, 109 great-grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren to mourn her loss. She was a consistent member of the Baptist Church for the last 46 yrs. (Weekly Wilmington Journal. March 10, 1854 - Onslow Register by Roger Kammerer, Vol 2 p 82) Mrs Fannie Aultman d. 9/20/1908. She was 85 yrs old on Aug 11th. She died at her home with a son, C A Aultman, in the 6th district of Crawford Co, GA. This was within 2 miles of where she was married 68 yrs ago to Mr Sol Aultman, who died 28 yrs ago. She leaves her sons: Green Aultman, Fate Aultman, John Aultman, Wilkins Aultman, and C A Aultman. Burial was at the Society Hill Church, Crawford Co, GA. Her parents moved to Crawford Co, 82 yrs ago and were among the first settlers of this county. Her father was Mr Fred Hardison, who married Miss Peggy Watson at Clinton, NC 110 yrs ago.
Johnnie Belle Bratten b. 7/25/1920 Lenor Co, NC & was the widow of Joseph Bratten. Besides being a proud home maker & designer of quilts, she worked at the New Fowler Store in Elizabeth City and the Dr Charles N Wright Medical Practice in Jarvisburg.
She lived in Currituck Co for over 50 yrs in a white house on Poplar Branch Rd. There she tended to the needs of her children & sent them off to school as they prepared for life's demands.
She was an active member of the Poplar Branch Baptist Church. She sung in the church choir, taught Vacation Bible School, attended Bible study, and actively supported her church with her attendance, contributions, and prayers.
Mrs Bratten is survived by 2 daughters, Lola McNeese of Shepherdsville, KY and Sylvia Griggs of Grandy, NC; 3 sons, Wayne Bratten of Pauleys Island, SC, James Bratten of Edenton, NC, and John Bratten of Fort Wayne, IN; 2 sisters, Sadie Farmer and Bernice Sutton; 18 grandchildren & 16great grandchildren.
Mrs Hardison, 75, Mrs Mary Mary Elizabeth Hardison w/o Eugene Hardison of Lewisburg, d. Logan Co hospital Tues afternoon following an illness of several days. She was 75. Funeral services were conducted Thurs morning at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Rev H T Asby officiated & burial was in Fitzhugh Cem. Mrs Hardison, a member of the Baugh Station Baptist church, was a native of Christian Co. Shw was the d/o the late C D & Melissa Oglesby. Besides her husband, Mrs Hardison is survived by a son, Arlo Knight of McKee; 2 daughters Mrs Hunter Anderson & Mrs Rumsey Nole, both of Lewisburg; one sister, Mrs W J Lyon, Lewisburg; 11 grchildren & 10 grgrchildren. Pallbears were Jaems Anderson, Norris Ray Knight, Aubrey Lyon, John Mallory, Wendell Ledham and Roy K Sherrod. (Unknown paper, Logan Co, KY 4/15/1953)
